As you may recall, I have been reading "War and Peace" - and I am here to tell you that the book rocks. For whatever reason, I had in my mind that the book was long and boring. Not the case at all. Long yes, but full of interesting, well-described characters. I look forward to reading it every evening, I am thankful for such a great book.
Some cool things about Afghanistan, they have these underground irrigation canals called karez. They look like big anthills all lined up when you fly over them. Since water evaporates quickly from the surface here, the karez avoids this exposure by keeping water underground as it moves (as opposed to open-air canals). They start at mountain bases where the water table is lowest and bring water to towns. They are all over the place.
I am thankful also for the weather in these cool mountains. The days are extremely comfortable; nice breeze, puffy clouds, maybe a storm or two in the afternoon. Cool 60's most of the day.

Speaking of cool weather, this was one side of a stunning double rainbow - this thing was huge, went from north to south and I swear it touched at both ends. I made my own spoof version of the YouTube famed Double Rainbow video, maybe I will show it to you some day...
This truck is jingled. When you jingle something, it means this below. Anything can be jingled, and most every thing is here.
Please pray for the unit at Shank that is getting ready to leave, that their homecoming will go well.
Please pray for the unit that is taking their place, that their tour here will be quick and painless.
